The New Generation: How to Live in a Cocoon of Comfort Without Losing Motivation

Let's start with the fact that the older generation is not an enemy but an ally. Despite all the complaints and criticisms aimed at youth, it's also not easy for them. Strangely enough, many managers who are now frantically searching for effective employees have gone through tough times themselves. They remember what it was like in the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, when life was filled with uncertainty and the struggle for survival. Now, having reached their "golden age," they look at the young people with opportunities and wonder why they don’t want to work.

Slackers or Just Different Realities?

Who among us hasn't heard the phrase "young people don’t want to work"? Yes, it’s a widespread opinion, often expressed by exhausted managers who have made endless attempts to find suitable employees. But let's be honest: the issue isn't that the new generation doesn't want to work; it’s about how they perceive work and life in general.

Today, youth are growing up in comfort. They have the convenience of services that were once available only to the elite. Food delivery, gyms, and constant internet access are not just privileges but norms. Therefore, it’s no surprise that they are unwilling to face the same hardships their parents did. They seek meaning rather than merely a way to earn a living.

Good Times Produce Weak People

Let's be frank: we are living better than ever before. Thus, logically, young people have the opportunity not only to enjoy life but also to develop. But what’s happening in reality? While living in a cozy cocoon, they encounter a lack of serious motivation. As strange as it sounds, comfort is a powerful weapon that can kill ambition.

Historically, as soon as people achieve stability, they begin to weaken. This is a natural process. Remember how empires were built and how they fell? Success and prosperity always followed hardship. Now, with the new generation, we see the opposite: a luxurious life creates individuals who are unwilling to take risks and face challenges.

Finding a Way Out

For Managers: Recognize that effective employees are worth the investment. This doesn’t mean paying outrageous sums, but understanding the value of a good worker can change management approaches. Investing in people is investing in business. Moreover, there are many hungry and ambitious individuals among those who want to work, eager to earn and achieve success.

For Workers: You have every chance to demand salary increases, change jobs, and learn new skills. There is almost no competition, especially given demographic changes. Use this to your advantage! It's time to remember that your skills and abilities are your main assets.

For Parents: It’s crucial to understand that a sheltered upbringing can raise fragile and unprepared individuals. Try to pass on your knowledge of survival in challenging conditions to your children, rather than just how to work on a computer. Give them opportunities to face difficulties so that they can become stronger and more independent.

Understanding the new generation and its realities is key to success. Work on yourselves, support one another, and remember that life is not just about comfort but also about overcoming challenges. Otherwise, we risk creating a society that fears the real world and all its challenges.
