Xiaomi YU7 GT: when a family SUV starts thinking like a supercar

Not long ago, the idea of a “family supercar” sounded like a marketing oxymoron. Either comfort and practicality, or extreme dynamics and track-focused behavior.

Not long ago, the idea of a “family supercar” sounded like a marketing oxymoron. Either comfort and practicality, or extreme dynamics and track-focused behavior.

But Xiaomi, once again, seems determined to rewrite the rules of the game.

And it does it in its signature style: loud, fast, and with the Nürburgring as a clear target.

990 hp for the family: a new logic of power

The new Xiaomi YU7 GT is not just another electric SUV. It is an attempt to combine the incompatible: long-distance travel, family comfort, and acceleration capable of making supercars nervous.

The technical figures are almost provocative:

— up to 990 horsepower;
— top speed of around 300 km/h;
— driving range of up to 705 km on a single charge.

All of this in a body officially described as a “travel sports car”.

In practice, this is a vehicle that is expected to feel equally at home on the highway and in the school pickup line.

The Nürburgring as a character laboratory

There are no accidental cars at the Nürburgring.

The fact that Xiaomi sent YU7 GT prototypes there signals the seriousness of the project. It is on the “Green Hell” that engineers fine-tuned the suspension and steering until the SUV stopped feeling like a compromise.

The brand has already proven its ambition: the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra completed the legendary lap in 6:22.091, establishing itself as a serious contender rather than just a participant.

The YU7 GT is a natural continuation of that strategy.

Interior: sportiness without excess

The cabin follows a clear principle: “premium with character”.

The two-tone black and red design creates a sense of controlled aggression. This is not luxury for luxury’s sake — it’s an interior that signals performance.

The GT embroidery on the seats acts almost like a signature: “this is not just another family SUV”.

GT is no longer just three letters

Historically, Gran Turismo stood for balance: comfort over long distances and high performance.

But here, the balance shifts.

Now it means:

— electric power approaching hypercar levels;
— range that removes charging anxiety;
— a chassis tuned where mistakes are not forgiven.

The idea is simple: travel far, travel fast, and still keep everyday usability.

A market that no longer guarantees winners

Important context: market pressure is increasing.

Sales of the standard YU7 have declined, and competition in the electric SUV segment is intensifying. Today, being a “good product” is no longer enough.

You have to surprise.

The YU7 GT looks like an attempt to regain attention through emotion and performance.

Price and expectations

The expected price — between 450,000 and 500,000 yuan — places the model in a segment where decisions are no longer purely rational but emotional as well.

And Xiaomi is playing a risky but fascinating game here: delivering too much car for the money.
