French automaker Renault has announced the R17 Electric Restomod concept car, which combines the classic design of the 1970s with modern electric drive technology. The premiere of this new electric vehicle will take place at the Paris Motor Show from October 14 to 20, 2024.
The R17 Electric Restomod is based on the legendary Renault 17 sports coupe, which debuted in 1971. The original was known for its four-seat design, large rear doors, and longitudinal engine layout. In the new version, the windows and doors of the old R17 have been retained, while the rest of the body lines have received modern updates, including an increased width of 17 cm for better road grip.
Under the hood of the R17 Electric Restomod is a powerful 270-horsepower electric motor located on the rear axle, and the lightweight carbon fiber chassis ensures a total weight of less than 1400 kg. In comparison, the original R17 weighed just over a ton.
The car’s interior also impresses with a blend of retro style and modern technology. Four displays featuring dials styled after the 1970s operate in a digital format, and the center console is equipped with a touchscreen. The interior features matte aluminum elements and wood-like applications, while the seats are upholstered in merino wool.
The Renault R17 Electric Restomod is set to be a standout at the auto show and a symbol of the fusion of past and future in automotive design.
