If you think electric cars are just boring “boxes on wheels,” GM China has just shattered all stereotypes. Meet the Buick Electra Orbit, a concept that combines the retro romance of the 1950s space age with cutting-edge future technologies. Trust me, seeing it is like embarking on a stellar odyssey.
The Electra Orbit impresses with its size: nearly six meters long and over two meters wide. Its silhouette is dramatic, with muscular fenders, 24-inch wheels, and scissor doors, as if the car could lift off into space at any moment. The aerodynamic rear and retractable drag-reduction devices hint at serious engineering potential under its futuristic exterior. And yes, the dual-opening frunk hides custom luggage compartments—perfect for long trips.
Step inside, and it feels like you’ve been transported to the future through the eyes of designers from the last century. The 2+2 cabin, finished in red clay tones, crystal accents, and the “Digital Illusion Carpet,” creates a sense of cosmic elegance. A full-width “Ring” display stretches from pillar to pillar, while the instrument panel and steering wheel adapt depending on the drive mode—from fully driver-focused to autonomous. At the center sits a wormhole-inspired AI assistant and a spherical controller managing the entire system.
The exterior in the “Space” color evokes the mystery and beauty of the cosmos. According to Stuart Norris, GM China’s Vice President of Design, the Electra Orbit demonstrates “how bold forms, materials, and technologies can be executed in an authentic context.”
