Apple is once again looking towards the future: the company has patented glass devices that could become true design masterpieces, but also raise questions about durability.

Recently, MacRumors published information about a new patent from Apple, describing an iPhone, Apple Watch, and even Mac Pro, all made entirely of glass. This isn’t just an aesthetic innovation; it’s a concept that could change the way we interact with gadgets. Apple has been studying the possibility of creating seamless glass enclosures for over ten years.

On one hand, these devices promise to be true visual marvels, but on the other hand, the question arises: how will the glass hold up after a fall? While the innovations that allow for interactive surface interaction are impressive, pretty shards aren't too appealing, especially when it comes to expensive devices.

The patent outlines six-sided glass structures, where all external surfaces—front, back, and sides—are made of glass. However, it’s important to remember that Apple always focuses on user convenience. For example, sensor zones will be placed on the sides and back of the device, allowing interaction from any angle depending on how the user holds the device.

There’s also a possibility that Apple Watch and Mac Pro will adopt a similar design with an octagonal prism shape. But should we expect these innovations to hit the market soon? Patents are always a long-term game. Throughout Apple’s history, many projects have never come to fruition.

In short, a glass iPhone is unlikely to be on store shelves anytime soon. But the way Apple envisions the future of its products certainly provides food for thought about how we will interact with technology in the coming decades.

Beautiful, but fragile?
