Everyone knows the feeling — after a certain event, your mind starts spinning with regrets and endless “what ifs.”
Everyone knows the feeling — after a certain event, your mind starts spinning with regrets and endless “what ifs.”
“I should have done it differently,” “Why didn’t I make another choice?” These thoughts loop over and over, poisoning the present and draining your energy.
A simple example: you planned to wake up early to be productive. You opened your eyes at 5 AM, but then… fell back asleep until 10.
Later, the self-judgment begins: “Why didn’t I get up? Why did I give in? I ruined everything…” This kind of inner blame can ruin your day, kill your productivity, ruin your mood, and leave you feeling even more disappointed.
Of course, there's a well-known saying:
“You can’t change the past, so there’s no use worrying about it.”
But in reality, that wisdom alone rarely brings relief. Sometimes, it even adds to the pressure: “If I can’t change it, then I really messed up.”
But here’s the truth: there was no mistake.
To truly let go, you need to accept one key idea:
In every moment, under the exact circumstances, things always happen in the best possible way.
You couldn’t have acted differently than you did.
So why does it feel like you could have?
Because you’re comparing your present self — with the knowledge and experience you’ve gained since — to your past self, who didn’t have that experience yet.
You then and you now — are not the same person.
If you would make a different choice today, it’s only because you now know how the earlier choice turned out. At that moment, you acted based on what you truly knew and felt.
And even with experience, there’s no guarantee you’ll always make the “right” choice in the future.
But guilt about the past creates more situations that mirror it — leading to more blame and disappointment.
This cycle continues until you let go of guilt and allow yourself to move forward without dragging the weight of the past.
This leads us to one core truth:
The only place where you truly have freedom and choice — is the present moment.
The past is done. The future is unknown.
But right now, you can choose the direction.
And everything that follows will unfold as it should — not based on some outside plan, but in perfect alignment with your inner path.
That means worrying about past decisions is pointless.
All that’s required of you is to be calm, conscious, and present — trusting that everything is happening just right.
The past doesn’t make you weaker. It makes you deeper.
When you accept it, you reclaim the power to act — not as a prisoner of your past, but as the author of your now.
