What if being polite with artificial intelligence isn’t just about good manners but a precaution in case neural networks one day rebel? It might sound like a joke, but according to research from Future, that’s what 12% of users believe. These cautious individuals think that politeness might be useful in the future if machines decide to rule the world.
The study involved over 1,000 people from the USA and the UK. 67% of Americans and 71% of Brits admitted to being polite when interacting with chatbots and other neural networks. Interestingly, while most Americans said they were polite because it was simply more pleasant, 12% expressed concerns about a potential AI uprising. Among the Brits, 17% shared similar concerns.
On the flip side, many people who don't bother with pleasantries simply don’t see the point. After all, a quick, no-nonsense request often works just fine. Still, who knows? Being polite with AI might not only make conversations more pleasant but could also serve as a safety net for the future.
So, don't forget to say thank you. It might help — you never know.
