Scientists Reveal Who Falls in Love Faster – Men or Women

They also found out who expresses their feelings more intensely and is more prone to obsession with their partner.

A group of scientists from Australia and New Zealand discovered that men fall in love faster than women. The study involved 808 individuals aged 18 to 25 who were currently in love with someone. The respondents were from Europe, North America, and South Africa—altogether from 33 countries. The main goal of the study was to determine how gender affects the initiation, development, and expression of romantic love.

The results showed that men fall in love about one month earlier than women. According to the researchers, this may be due to the social role of men, who must demonstrate their devotion in order to attract a partner. Overall, men fall in love slightly more often than women, but their attachment is less intense. Women, on the other hand, tend to be more obsessed with their partner and express stronger romantic feelings.

The study also revealed that men are more likely to fall in love before the relationship becomes official. Specifically, 30% of men reported falling in love before the relationship was officially recognized, compared to just 20% of women.

The researchers emphasized that this is the first study to explore the difference in the experience of romantic love between men and women based on a large, cross-cultural sample. Notably, the differences remained evident even after accounting for factors like age and gender ratios in the participating countries, although the difference in devotion disappeared.

Interestingly, in countries with a higher level of gender equality, people fall in love less often, show less devotion, and are less concerned about relationships. This suggests that the perception of love is influenced not only by evolutionary factors but also by social norms.
