If you thought sneakers were just for skating or everyday wear, Vans and Japanese artist Yusuke Hanai are here to change your perspective. Their second collaboration immerses you in a reflective autumn mood: soft light, wind outside the window, thoughts of the past, and a loyal cat watching the clouds with you. A true aesthetic of melancholy, captured in shoes and apparel.
The centerpiece of the collection is the Vans Premium Authentic — a redesigned classic featuring Hanai’s motif of a person and a cat admiring floating clouds. Every line on the foxing tape is hand-drawn, while the transparent waffle sole reveals a hidden piece of art. Compared to their previous collaboration, which focused on the Old Skool model, this release feels more meditative and deep, as if to remind us that sometimes observing is more important than acting.
Alongside the sneakers, the collection offers apparel in minimalist olive, black, and white tones: coach jackets, hoodies, long-sleeve tees, baggy pants, and beanies. Each piece showcases the same artwork as the shoes, enhanced with “OFF THE WALL” logos and skate-inspired motifs. It’s the perfect set for anyone who appreciates the combination of urban style and contemplative vibes.
The collection will be released in phases: the online lottery starts October 31, the pre-sale is on November 7 at the Vans Harajuku store, and the general release follows on November 8. The sneakers are priced at ¥11,500 JPY (approximately $75 USD), making them an accessible piece of art and skate culture for true enthusiasts.
