Director Edward Berger—the same one whose The Conclave recently contended for an Oscar—tells the story of a man who has ventured too close to the edge… and is about to fall.

The protagonist is a charismatic man used to filling the emptiness in his soul with gambling, alcohol, and fleeting victories. The card table in Macau becomes for him both an arena of triumph and a cage. A few brilliant wins, nights in a haze, the sense that everything is under control… But reality doesn’t forgive self-deception. Farrell’s character falls from a hotel rooftop—and is given a second chance. The question is whether he can seize it or will once again bet on his own self-destruction.

The Ballad of the Little Gambler is more than just a crime thriller. It’s a film about addiction, about how easily you can lose your footing when you push fate in search of adrenaline. Berger masterfully creates an atmosphere in which the viewer constantly wonders: is what they see real, or just a product of imagination?

Alongside Farrell, the film stars Tilda Swinton—mysterious and cold as fate itself—Alex Jennings, Chen Fala, Jason Tobin, and other actors who form a colorful but dangerous environment around the protagonist.

The international release begins on October 17, and by October 29 the film will be available on Netflix. This autumn promises to be intense—not because of your fireplace, but because Farrell is once again performing on the edge.
