Scientists Discover the Reason Behind Overeating in Men (Of Course, Women Are to Blame!)

There are many ways to impress a woman: wit, status, or intelligence. However, it turns out there's another way for men to make an impression – their appetite. Yes, you heard that right! It turns out that the more a man eats in the presence of women, the more likely he is to impress them.

There are many ways to impress a woman: wit, status, or intelligence. However, it turns out there's another way for men to make an impression – their appetite. Yes, you heard that right! It turns out that the more a man eats in the presence of women, the more likely he is to impress them.

A study from Cornell University involving 133 participants (74 men and 59 women) revealed an intriguing fact: men eat more when dining with women. It doesn’t matter whether they're consuming gourmet croutons with foie gras or simple borscht with garlic buns.

In the experiment, which involved pizza, each man ate an average of 93% more slices when dining with women than when surrounded only by men. Kevin Kniffin, one of the study’s authors, explains that men overeat to impress women, as a hearty appetite is subconsciously perceived as a sign of health and vitality.

Subconsciously, a man sends a message: "Look at me, I'm so skilled, brave, and capable! I’m going to finish this steak in no time!" Sure, ordering a second steak is not as dramatic as joining the resistance, but overeating can have serious health consequences. So if you're not mindful of your eating habits, you might be risking more than just a stomach ache.

Interestingly, women didn’t alter the amount they ate based on the gender of their dining companions. However, when a man was at their table, they more often felt they had overeaten. This might be due to the pressure women feel when seeing their male companions eat, leading them to overeat as well.

So if you want to impress a woman, besides showing off your conversational skills and success, you might want to consider displaying your culinary prowess. But remember to balance it out – don’t sacrifice your health just to make an impression. Otherwise, eat well and enjoy!
