If you thought you’d seen Leonardo DiCaprio in every possible role, get ready—he’s about to surprise you again. In the new trailer for One Battle After Another, released by Warner Bros., the Oscar-winning actor takes on the role of an eccentric revolutionary willing to do anything to save his daughter.

This marks the first collaboration between DiCaprio and iconic director Paul Thomas Anderson, known for The Master, There Will Be Blood, and Phantom Thread. Inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, the film promises to be a cinematic explosion, blending satire, drama, and action.

Judging by the trailer, the main character, Bob Ferguson (DiCaprio), is not just a fighter for justice but a reckless anarchist who constantly finds himself in chaotic yet fascinating situations. In one scene, he’s wearing a robe and a hat, making a call from a public payphone using cryptic passwords. When he forgets one, he’s immediately left to fend for himself.

Joining DiCaprio are Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Alana Haim. Del Toro stands out in particular, playing Bob’s mentor—perhaps even a kind of “revolutionary guru.” The trailer ends with the characters charging into battle, shouting, “Long live the revolution!”

One Battle After Another hits theaters on September 26 and marks DiCaprio’s first leading role since Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Get ready—this film is sure to make you rethink revolution, madness, and great cinema.
