Guys, heads up: get ready for a serious dose of boxing adrenaline! The first trailer for the sports biopic “Christy” is finally out, and Sydney Sweeney as legendary boxer Christy Martin impresses from the very first frame.
The film chronicles the life and career of one of women’s boxing pioneers, highlighting not only her sporting victories but also her personal struggles. In the trailer, we see the West Virginia native meeting promoter Don King (Chad L. Coleman) for the first time, accompanied by her coach and future husband Jim Martin (Ben Foster), who is 25 years her senior. Dressed entirely in pink in the ring, Christy wins every fight… until a loss seems inevitable.
But the ring is only part of her battle. In her personal life, Christy faces an abusive husband and internal conflicts regarding her sexuality. The film shows her doubts, her attempts to return to her native West Virginia, and the risk of losing her career. She confides in her mother, only to face gaslighting. The synopsis reads: “Based on extraordinary true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.”
To fully embody the Hall of Fame star, Sydney Sweeney underwent a physical transformation: months of training, muscle gain, and about 30 pounds added. The result is impressive – in front of us stands a true force, both in and out of the ring.
